Pakistan's Test cricketer, Wahab Riaz, who was recently appointed as an adviser to the Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on sports and youth affairs, is set to host a special Ramadan sports series. This initiative is a part of Riaz's proactive efforts to enhance sports and youth affairs in the province.
Visiting sports grounds and facilities since taking charge, Riaz has also directed the upgradation of some sports grounds in Lahore. In line with his vision to promote sports, he announced the first-ever Ramadan sports series on Sunday, scheduled to take place from April 7 to 11 at Nishtar Park Sports Complex in Lahore.
Ramadan Sports Series Details
The series will include six major sports events, including Badminton, Cricket (tape ball), Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, and Table Tennis. Players from across the province will compete in high-class facilities for championships and the highest prize money in the province's history.
Riaz thanked the authorities for helping him in launching the Ramadan sports series. In his tweet, he expressed gratitude towards Ali Randhawa and Rafia Haider, Secretary of Sports, and all elite departments for their efforts to make it possible.
Riaz's Appointment and Recent PSL 8 Participation
It is essential to note that Riaz was appointed as Punjab's caretaker government sports minister. He had requested the provincial government to allow him to participate in the recently concluded PSL 8 before taking the oath.
Riaz represented Peshawar under the captaincy of Babar Azam in PSL 8, taking 10 wickets in 11 matches this year. Overall, he is the highest wicket-taker in PSL with 113 scalps.
