Spotify's Global Music Program has chosen to celebrate women creators by featuring their content on its platform.
As part of this initiative, the platform has selected Pakistani singer Shae Gill's track "Sukoon" as the highlighted track for the month of December.
Gill, who is known for her duet with Ali Sethi called "Pasoori," which has become the most-streamed Pakistani song on Spotify and has garnered nearly half a billion views on YouTube, will serve as an ambassador for the Spotify EQUAL Pakistan initiative.
Gill, who was discovered on Instagram in 2019 and hails from Lahore, Pakistan, has also been named the most-streamed Pakistani female artist on Spotify this year.
In the winter of 2022, Gill released two tracks, including a cover of the traditional wedding song "Lathay Di Chadar" and a collaboration with songwriters Hassan and Roshaan called "Sukoon."
Hassan and Roshan shared a clip of the music video for "Sukoon" on Instagram, writing that the director had described the song as giving him a sense of peace mixed with melancholy.
They explained that the song reflects the idea of a goldfish in a fishbowl, which is both beautiful and lonely at the same time. "Zindagi haseen bhi hay, tanha bhi hay [life is also beautiful, life is also lonely)," they wrote. "A goldfish in a bowl, perhaps the prettiest, loneliest thing one could visualize."
