The Jinnah Peoples Train service is now operating on the restored Quetta–Kuchlak corridor in Balochistan. The project reconnects communities on a 32-kilometre section and adds a practical rail option for people travelling through the Quetta area.

The federal government officially inaugurated the service on 29 September 2026 after work to restore and upgrade the Sariab–Kuchlak track. It is an important local transport development, but passengers should still check the latest departure time and fare at a Pakistan Railways station or official channel before travelling.

What route does the Jinnah Peoples Train use?

The announced corridor runs between Sariab and Kuchlak, passing through Quetta. The seven stations and halts named for the route are Kuchlak, Baleli, Sheikh Manda, GOR Halt, Quetta, Lora Karez Halt and Sariab.

This makes the service particularly relevant for commuters, students, families and visitors moving between the northern side of Quetta and surrounding neighbourhoods. It is not a substitute for checking your specific journey: station stops and operating times can change.

What changed on the rail line?

According to the official inauguration announcement, the 32-kilometre Sariab–Kuchlak section was upgraded and restored in 120 days at an estimated cost of Rs3 billion. The development brings a previously inactive local connection back into public use.

Before you go: confirm the current timetable, platform and ticket availability from Pakistan Railways. This announcement did not set out a passenger fare chart or a fixed daily timetable.

How to plan a trip

  • Choose the nearest listed station or halt and confirm that your train calls there.
  • Arrive early, especially if you need to buy a ticket at the station.
  • Keep a valid ID and follow station security instructions.
  • For a long onward journey, leave a time buffer rather than relying on a tight connection.

Why this matters for Quetta commuters

Short-distance rail can make a real difference when a corridor links residential areas with a major city centre. The service also gives travellers another option alongside road transport. For people planning a wider road trip, our NHA northern-route travel advisory and Pakistan flood and road-safety update may help with route planning.
