Arooj Aftab Makes History Again: First Pakistani Grammy Winner to Perform at Awards Ceremony

Arooj Aftab, a Pakistani musician and the first Pakistani to win a Grammy, is set to make history once again as she prepares to perform at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

On Friday, Aftab took to her Instagram account to announce that she will be performing at the Grammys premiere ceremony, which is held hours before the main awards show. This ceremony is where several awards are announced and given out.

Aftab shared her excitement with her followers, writing that she cannot wait to perform her Grammy-nominated song ‘Udhero Na’ featuring Anoushka Shankar, live at the Grammys. She invited her followers to catch her performance live on live.grammy.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel on February 5 at 12:30 pm Pacific Time.

Shankar, who collaborated with Aftab on ‘Udhero Na’, commented on Aftab’s post, expressing her excitement for the performance.

Other celebrities, including fashion designer HSY, actress Tara Mahmood, Never Have I Ever’s Richa Moorjani, and American singer Jessica Betts, also showed their support for Aftab's performance.

In addition to Arooj Aftab, several other musicians, including Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Steve Lacy, Lizzo, Kim Petras, and Sam Smith, are also set to perform at this year’s Grammys.

This year, Aftab’s ‘Udhero Na’ has been nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category. She is competing against other notable artists such as Matt B and Eddy Kenzo, Burna Boy, Rocky Dawuni and Blvk H3ro, and Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode.

Among the nominees, pop superstar Beyonce leads the pack with nine nominations, setting up a potential showdown with other big names such as Adele and Harry Styles for the top prize of Album Of

The Year. With her latest nominations, Beyonce’s career total now stands at 88, tying her with her husband Jay-Z as the most nominated artist in Grammy history.
