Oxford Scholarships for Pakistani Students: Tareen Oxford Scholarship Announced by OPP

The Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) has announced the Tareen Oxford Scholarship, which will provide means-tested funding for Pakistani students, with a preference for talented students from South Punjab. This new scholarship opportunity will be a life-changing opportunity for gifted students who wish to pursue their higher studies at the University of Oxford's Kellogg College.

Eligibility Criteria and Scholarship Details

The scholarship will be awarded to students who have an admission offer for one of the eligible graduate courses offered at the Kellogg College, Oxford, but do not possess the financial means to take up the offer. The scholarship will contribute towards tuition fees and living costs for the students as part of the OPP’s graduate scholarship programme.

The Tareen Oxford Scholarship will be established as a five-year programme, with funds being donated annually and disbursed on a rolling basis. This scholarship opportunity will play a crucial, foundational role in uplifting talented young scholars from South Punjab, one of Pakistan's most underdeveloped regions.

Preference will be given to students for whom the scholarship will be a life-changing opportunity and who have the potential and commitment to contribute to the development of South Punjab. The scholarship is made possible with the support of Ali Tareen, who is an alumnus of Kellogg College, Oxford.

Benefits of the Scholarship

The Tareen Oxford Scholarship will not only benefit the awardees but also create a positive spillover in terms of raising aspirations of similar talented scholars in the communities from which Tareen scholars will be drawn from. It will also be a significant step towards creating a more diverse and inclusive academic community at Oxford.

Two Initiatives of the Programme

In addition to the Tareen Oxford Scholarship, the programme consists of two initiatives to promote access to higher education for Pakistani students from South Punjab.

The first initiative is an access programme for final-year students applying for graduate degrees. This programme will feature an Access Conference for final-year students from South Punjab who are in the process of applying for MSc and PhD degrees abroad.

The top 20 attendees at the Access Conference will be offered one-on-one mentorship with an Oxford student or recent alumni, free of cost.

The second initiative is for FSc toppers and first-year public sector university toppers. 100 student will be selected from South Punjab who have either topped their FSc. boards or obtained the highest marks in their first year at university.

These students will be provided mentorship on how to make the most of their next three to four years, guidance on career prospects, and one-on-one mentorship to help them aspire to be the best minds globally.

The Tareen Oxford Scholarship and the OPP’s two initiatives will provide Pakistani students from South Punjab with the opportunity to pursue their dreams of higher education at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.

The OPP Scholarship Committee will consider both academic merit and financial need when selecting recipients. Applicants must demonstrate a desire to contribute to Pakistan's development through impactful research and public engagement.

Special preference will be given to applicants for whom the opportunity to study at Oxford is potentially life-changing. At least one scholarship, supported by the Malala Fund, will be awarded to a female applicant from an underprivileged background in Pakistan.

Successful applicants will need to be affiliated with Lady Margaret Hall, and scholarships might be awarded as partial scholarships to a larger number of deserving students. While the OPP does not typically cover the cost of air travel from Pakistan, under exceptional cases and subject to the availability of resources, some travel support might be offered.

Applicants should submit an online application form by the given deadline. The scholarship application portal opens on Sunday 2 April and closes on 11.59 pm GMT on Monday 1 May. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an online interview by the OPP Scholarship Committee, and decisions will be made before the end of May. Feedback on individual applications cannot be provided due to the large volume of applications.
