Pakistan's Islamabad Police has appointed fast bowler Haris Rauf as their goodwill ambassador and conferred on him the honorary DSP rank. Rauf expressed his gratitude on Twitter and stated that he was honoured to wear the uniform of the Islamabad Police, who put their lives on the line to serve and protect the citizens of Pakistan.
In an exclusive interview with Media, Rauf thanked the Islamabad IG Dr Akbar Nasir Khan and the police for recognising his services to Pakistan and assured them of his availability whenever required.
The Islamabad Police chief also expressed his delight at having Rauf as their ambassador, stating that since he hailed from Islamabad, it was an honour for them to have him represent them. The rising star of Pakistan cricket, Haris Rauf, initially played tape ball cricket in Rawalpindi before being discovered by the Lahore Qalandars during open trials for the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The Qalandars invested in his development and sent him to Australia under their player development programme. Rauf subsequently played in the Big Bash League (BBL) before making his T20I debut for Pakistan in 2020.
He is now an integral part of Pakistan's bowling unit and played a key role in the Lahore Qalandars' back-to-back PSL title victories alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi.
It is noteworthy that the Balochistan Police appointed fast-bowler Naseem Shah as their goodwill ambassador and honorary DSP in February 2021, while Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the goodwill ambassador by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in July 2020.
Haris Rauf's appointment as the goodwill ambassador of the Islamabad Police is a recognition of his achievements and contributions to Pakistan's cricket team. Rauf's passion and dedication to cricket have earned him a reputation as one of the most promising fast bowlers in Pakistan. His rise to fame has been swift, and he has become an inspiration to young cricket players in the country.
Rauf's appointment as the goodwill ambassador of the Islamabad Police is also a reflection of the growing trend of sportsmen being recognized for their contributions to society. The role of sportsmen as ambassadors of goodwill is becoming increasingly important, as they are often looked up to as role models by young people.
In recent years, many sports personalities in Pakistan have been appointed as goodwill ambassadors of various organizations. These appointments have not only recognized the achievements of the sportsmen but also provided them with an opportunity to contribute to society in a meaningful way.
Haris Rauf's appointment as the goodwill ambassador of the Islamabad Police is a significant milestone in his career. It is a testament to his hard work, determination, and commitment to the sport of cricket. With his new role, Rauf will be able to use his platform to raise awareness about the importance of law enforcement and the sacrifices made by police officers in the line of duty.
