This was announced by the Chief Minister's Special Assistant (SACM) for excise duties and taxes, Syed Ghazi Ghazan Jamal, as he briefed the media here on Thursday about his department's two-year action.

He said the tax rate for existing taxpayers has been lowered while initiatives are being taken to get new people under the tax network. By law, excise stations have been set up in five provinces, he added. Kamran Bangash, flanked by the Chief Minister's (SACM) Special Assistant for Information, said the provincial government was working on the historic tax reform agenda and that the real estate tax concession had been increased from 10 percent to 20 percent while the duration of the claim was that this discount was increased from two to eight months.

Likewise, he said, a 30 percent discount is offered when paying property taxes all at once, while a 25 percent discount is offered when paying several installments.

He said the tax rate remained at 86 percent for two quarters of the current fiscal year, leaving two billion rupees so far. Before establishing a separate drug division, Ghazan said a total of 168 posts had been created to kick-start the recruitment process and that staff training had also begun on modern lines.

In an effort to eradicate the narcotic threat, the SACM announced that it had acted harshly by applying a mapping system to the relevant areas. To complete the double tax collection, 18 tax items were waived.

He said the tax collector system was put in place to actually determine taxes, while the GIS mapping survey is conducted in tax districts.
