Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and UNICEF Pakistan Collaborate to Promote Safe Online Environment for Children

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Pakistan have joined hands to promote a secure and productive online environment for children in Pakistan. The collaboration aims to prevent and report incidents of online child abuse and encourage responsible internet usage among children, caregivers, and educators through awareness and capacity-building efforts.

Initiatives to Promote Child Protection Online

Under this collaboration, PTA has already declared ‘1121’ as a free emergency helpline for child protection, whereas other areas of focus will be implemented by both sides. Mr. Muhammad Naveed, Chairman of PTA, and Mr. Abdullah Fadil, Representative, of UNICEF Pakistan, along with senior officers from both PTA and UNICEF, attended the ceremony.

Secure and Risk-Free Digital Environment

Chairman PTA, Mr. Muhammad Naveed, spoke at the occasion and stated that PTA is determined to provide a secure and risk-free digital environment for children in Pakistan.

He emphasized the importance of the collaboration, and UNICEF Pakistan’s strong network with child protection stakeholders, which will pave the way for better reporting of child online abuse cases to PTA and the subsequent removal of objectionable content from the internet.

Full Cooperation to Implement Agreed Activities

Mr. Abdullah Fadil, the Representative of UNICEF Pakistan, also stressed the significance of this collaboration and assured their full cooperation in implementing the agreed activities. This partnership between PTA and UNICEF Pakistan is a step towards creating a safe and secure online environment for children in Pakistan.
