President Arif Alvi awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz those who saved country 1.2 billion

Dr. Arif Alvi handed Sitara-i-Imtiaz on Friday to the squad of officers in the Pakistani military, whose efforts saved the country from a $ 1.2 billion fine.

According to the government secretariat's press release, the officials were among 184 Pakistani and foreign nationals who received civil justice awards for their excellence and courage in their respective territories.

According to media reports, Brig Rana Arfan Shakeel Ramay, Colonel Loo Farooq Shahbaz and Ahmed Irfan Aslam attempted to gather information from banks in Switzerland, Lebanese and Dubai about the corruption of Turkish electricity rental company Karkey.

Officials also collected documents from Panama and the British Virgin Islands that proved helpful in winning the case against the company.

As a result of their watertight investigation, Karkey was forced to drop cases against Pakistan to save the nation from severe sanctions and international embarrassment.

The team, led by Brig Ramay, would receive Sitara-i-Imtiaz for public service on March 23, 2021.

Last year, Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government achieved tremendous success when it received the $ 1.2 billion award announced in August 2017 by the International Center for Investment Disputes Settlement (ICSID) to move the country into de Karkey has settled the case.

On August 22, 2017, ICSID presented the award to Karkey after the company filed a lawsuit against the Pakistani government for completing its rental project. The contract was terminated by order of the Supreme Court.

After the initial ICSID award, Pakistan had to pay more than $ 800 million in damages and $ 5.6 million (rupees 590 million) per month in interest on Karkey.

In 2008, Karkey had received a contract from the Pakistani government for the supply of electricity under the RPPs set up to offset the electricity shortage.

As a result, the Supreme Court annulled all RPP contracts from the outset, as it was a prima facie case that the contracts had been obtained by various private parties through corruption. The Apex court also hired the National Accountability Bureau to investigate.

The statement was made on social media on November 4, 2019 by Prime Minister Imran Khan, stating that the PTI government, with the help of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has amicably resolved the Karkey dispute and that Pakistani ICSID has been fined imposed in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister congratulated the government negotiating team on their excellent work.
