FBISE decides to conduct SSC and HSSC two annual exams

The Federal Board of intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has decided to take two annual exams at the level of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) from 2022 of each year's separately.

This practice helps ease the burden on students as they can choose the subjects they would like to take for the exam in the first and second years.

This was decided on Wednesday during a meeting of the Board of Directors of FBISE (BoG), where the BoG approved a number of functions to bring the board in line with international practice.

According to a published announcement, it has been indicated that the board exam will take place twice a year in May and September from 2022. This gives the students unlimited opportunities to try out their failed work and saves valuable academic time.

It was also decided to offer different combinations of subjects to students, such as biology with mathematics or economics and environmental studies with chemistry. It was also noted that topics such as mechatronics and bioinformatics will also be introduced as part of a new program.

The meeting also discussed the retake exams to adapt to the curriculum. Rather than testing for memorization, the board members agreed that they should think and be competence-oriented, which should be encouraged by designing better questionnaires.

It is important to take a competency-based exam in 8th grade to guide students towards educational paths. They added that only important subjects or skills should be tested, while the board only issues certificates to students in the 10th and 12th grades.

It was also decided that relative grading is more appropriate as it allows for flexibility as a baseline is determined by the highest and lowest scores and the rest of the students are graded accordingly.

A day ago, the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association (APPSCA) announced that they would continue research in private educational institutions across the country using standard instructions for use (SOPs) to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 infection .

He categorically denied Punjab Education Minister Murad Rass's testimony about the completion of exams before March 19, saying that schools and colleges would end their sessions by April.

Hussain added that the academic year had already been hit hard, while high school and mid-term exams were also close

He suggested that the government should not disrupt educational activities and should focus on implementing precautionary measures in schools and colleges.
