Nankana Sahib is Pakistan major pilgrimage sites for Sikhs.

These include the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, who was born in Nankana Sahib district in 1469, and Gurdwara (or monastery) Punja Sahib in Hasan Abdal, where Guru Nanak’s handprint is believed to be engraved on a rock. The Pakistani government also built Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib at the end of last year to support Sikh pilgrims from all over the world, especially from India.

In October 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone for the university, named after the founder of Sikhism. The university is located in the northeastern district of Nankana Sahib in Punjab Province, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, 75 kilometers from the provincial capital, Lahore.
