Discover Pakistan a tourism-focused satellite TV channel launched

Pakistan's only and first tourism-focused satellite TV channel - Discover Pakistan went live on Saturday. This was announced on the station's social media pages urging local cable operators to broadcast the station.

The station broadcasts in HD - High Definition to project the natural wonders of the country internationally in the best possible way.

The Discover Pakistan TV station aims to do this with original documentaries, coverage of tourism events and development and a morning show that emphasizes Pakistan's soft image.

The TV channel, hailed by the announcement as fulfilling Prime Minister Imran Khan's vision, has been in preparation since at least 2017 and is set to launch soon.

Since then, the station has been promoting Pakistan's natural beauty, historical sites and remarkable areas to visit through its social media pages and has gained an impressive following of nearly a million people on Facebook.

The development is based on a strong focus of the current government on promoting tourism in order to generate higher income from the tourism industry. Some of these efforts include the first startup tourism incubation program launched in Abbottabad in 2017.

With the improvement of Pakistan's security situation, measures to facilitate international tourists and government policies, the tourism industry has enjoyed unprecedented success and millions of international tourists are flocking to the country.

To facilitate and coordinate the government's commitment to make tourism a priority in overall development, Prime Minister Imran Khan established a 12-member National Tourism Coordination Committee on August 26 last year.
