Sindh Government Declares Public Holiday for Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Urs

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on September 1st (Friday) to commemorate the Urs of the revered saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

In accordance with an official notice from the provincial caretaker government, all government offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous entities, corporations, and local councils under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government will be closed on that day, except for essential services.

The notification reads, "The government of Sindh designates the 14th of Safar 1445 (A.H), which falls on September 1, 2023, as a public holiday across the entire province of Sindh. This holiday is observed in honor of the Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA).

It applies to all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative authority of the Sindh government, excluding essential services."

The Urs festival commences annually on the 14th of Safar, the second month of the Hijra calendar, and spans three days. According to reports, the three-day celebration will commence with events such as poetry marathons, literary conferences, and various other activities dedicated to the occasion.
