Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development to revive the Green Channel initiative, streamlining immigration and customs services for Overseas Pakistanis.
This move aims to provide expedited processing for expatriates returning to their homeland, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience.
The Green Channel initiative, initially launched to facilitate hassle-free entry for Pakistani expatriates, had seen a decline in recent years.
Speaking at the Overseas Pakistanis Global Foundation Convention, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the critical role that Overseas Pakistanis play in strengthening the national economy. He acknowledged their hard work and sacrifices, stating that their remittances are a lifeline for the country’s financial stability.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted a remarkable increase in foreign remittances, reporting a 30% surge in recent months. This growth in remittances underscores the trust and confidence that Pakistanis living abroad have in their country’s economy.
Foreign Remittances Surge by 30%
Remittances are a crucial component of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, and the increase in inflows will help stabilize the rupee against foreign currencies.
In an additional development, Saudi Arabia has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to combat money laundering and financial crimes.
The MoU will facilitate enhanced cooperation between financial institutions of both countries, strengthening Pakistan’s ability to monitor and control financial transactions.
The Prime Minister has urged Overseas Pakistanis to actively support the implementation of the Green Channel.Additionally, plans are in place to introduce digital solutions that will further streamline entry procedures for Overseas Pakistanis.
Addressing security concerns, PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to fighting terrorism. He provided updates on recent counter-terrorism operations in Balochistan, where 23 terrorists were eliminated in targeted military actions.
The government is keen on further strengthening engagement with the Pakistani diaspora, recognizing their valuable contributions in various sectors.
