Pakistan to Establish Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation

Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Aminul Haque, announced that the government of Pakistan will invest Rs2.5 billion to establish the Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA) and the country's first virtual production studio at NED University in Karachi.

The initiative is aimed at transforming the small gaming and animation sector in Pakistan into a large one. The establishment of CEGA is a clear indication of the government's support for the development of the technology and creative industries in Pakistan.

The IT Minister stated that the gaming and animation industry has seen a significant increase in growth due to the availability of the internet, satellite TV, mobile devices, social media, and growing demand for entertainment, gaming, animation movies, and visual effects.

CEGA, which will be functional within six months, will provide the necessary skills and platform to the youth of Pakistan to contribute to the gaming and animation industry, while also aiding the country's economy.

It is expected to help Pakistan capture a larger market share in the $500 billion worldwide gaming and animation industry.

The IT Minister explained that the CEGA project will cost Rs1.5 billion and cover an area of 13,000 square feet. Syed Junaid Imam, a Member of IT at MoITT, called the establishment of CEGA a significant step towards the growth of the gaming and animation industry in Pakistan.

He stated that the goal of the initiative is to increase Pakistan's gaming and animation exports to $500 million within the next five years. The CEO of Ignite, Asim Shahryar Husain, also added that CEGA has the potential to contribute significantly to the growth of the industry and to the country's economy and exports.

The establishment of CEGA will provide a platform for the tech and arts industry to enhance their gaming and animation skills, which will be crucial to developing a workforce that can compete in the global market.

The initiative will provide young people with the opportunity to access training and gain practical experience in gaming and animation. This will not only help the gaming and animation industry in Pakistan but will also contribute to the country's overall economic growth.
