Succession Certificates will begin issuing by NADRA

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will begin issuing administrative letters and successor certificates on the initiative of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) at the Prime Minister's office in Islamabad on Thursday, January 21, 2020.

The law has been passed as a solution to the problems that legal heirs of deceased persons face in obtaining administrative letters and certificates of succession from the court. This new initiative will save them a lot of time and money and relieve the courts of a heavy and time-consuming burden.

The current system requires legal heirs to go to court for inheritance law. This process can take years.

The Department of Justice worked with NADRA to develop a mechanism to develop succession units for issuing comfort letters and certificates of succession to the legal heirs of deceased persons within 15 days of filing their application.

Before this development, it would take between two and seven years for the heirs to receive such letters through the court. Now NADRA will use biometric approval to issue the certificates within weeks.

The physical presence of legal heirs is no longer necessary to be able to issue the certificates. If the heirs live abroad, they can process the deed from there as the NADRA database is linked to all foreign missions. Prime Minister Khan has appointed Federal Justice Minister Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem was tasked with overhauling the judicial system.

The minister has worked hard to draft bills that are beneficial to the common man, and the 2020 adoption of the 2020 Administrative Letters and Succession Act is one of them.

Legal adviser Sindh Murtaza Wahab announced the news on Twitter on Saturday, saying the city had also passed a drug law. Police will be able to investigate modern cases of synthetic and non-synthetic drugs, he said.

The successor certificates have the same validity as other certificates issued by the courts under the Inheritance Act of 1925, Wahab said, and are valid nationwide. That is to say, if a Karachi resident dies and owns property in Islamabad, his legal heirs can claim it with the inheritance law issued by NADRA in Sindh.
