The Punjab government has abolished two-year degrees and master's degrees in more than 780 state colleges and 30 universities in the province.
In the future, state colleges and universities will only enroll students for the four-year BS Honors programs. The qualification corresponds to a 16-year course. As of the academic year 2020-21, admission to the two-year BA, BSc, BCom and BSc Computer Science Degrees at State Colleges and Universities in Punjab has stopped.

Instead, the four-year BS honors programs in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Economics, English, Persian, Arabic, Punjabi, and Arts were conducted taking into account international standards.
The credit timer system is also reportedly being introduced. The two-year intermediate and four-year BS Honors program entitles the holder to a 16-year course.
The provincial government has also issued written instructions to all departments and agencies, including the Punjab Public Service Commission, to ensure that eligibility for future vacancies is recorded as a BS award.
Ordinary annual graduates who completed the two-year BA and BSc with approximately 150,000 and approximately 800,000 private graduates were admitted to the two-year graduate programs.
After the move, they must complete the four-year program with a two-year degree to be considered for the jobs based on BS.
On the other hand, the two-year master's programs have also been abolished, because the completion of the four-year honors program is recognized as a 16-year qualification.
Punjab Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfaraz said that the two-year master's degree and two-year master's degrees have been abolished to improve the quality of education and meet the demands of international education and research.
Two-year graduate schools have been awarded associate degree status given the need for immediate employment, he added. "If graduates want to graduate, they must complete two more years of education at a relevant university before they can complete four years."
