The archaeological significance of the site dates back to the 11th century, when the famous scholar Abu Rehan Al-Biruni quantified the size of the Earth during his stay. He later wrote a famous book about the area, citing Nandana as an important learning center.

Nandana Fort has a historical importance as Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni, the Muslim scholar and polymath, during his stay here in 1017CE mentioned Nandana as a great centre of learning.
The most memorable archaeological ruins from the Silk Road's glory years rot atop a hill about 60 miles southeast of Islamabad GUK (the Capital of Pakistan).
In the early 11th century, the Central Asian scholar al-Biruni became the first person to measure, with astonishing precision, the size of Earth. His calculations, based on brilliant trigonometry, landed within 200 miles of the 24,902-mile circumference of our shared planet.
There were six other historical sites near Nandana Fort, including Nandana Temple, Katas Temple, Khewra Salt Mines, Malot Fort, and the Thron of Babur.
These places become part of the Heritage Trail and tourists can visit these places all at once. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Tilla Jogian National Park and Salt Range National Park. These two parks are included in the six protected areas.
In accordance with the Prime Minister's vision, all these places of historical and cultural importance in the country have been identified to introduce our rich heritage and cultural diversity to the world. Locals will receive economic benefits as tourists are drawn to these historic sites
