As the New Year approaches, Punjab Police has announced a detailed traffic management plan to ensure public safety and smooth road operations during the celebrations. With the festive season bringing increased vehicular movement and potential risks, authorities are doubling down on security and traffic regulation across the province.
Key Measures for Road Safety and Order
Massive Deployment of Personnel
To manage traffic effectively and maintain law and order, Punjab Police has deployed over 25,000 personnel across the province. In Lahore alone, 5,000 officers, supported by specialized units such as the Dolphin Squad and Punjab Highway Patrol, will regulate traffic and monitor activities.
In Rawalpindi, 800 traffic wardens and 6,600 police personnel have been assigned to prevent reckless behavior and enforce safety measures.
Strict Action Against Violators
Authorities have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for violations like one-wheeling, aerial firing, and reckless driving. Special pickets and checkpoints have been set up at critical locations to identify and penalize offenders. Those caught engaging in illegal activities may face arrests and FIRs.
Enhanced Patrolling for Public Safety
Patrolling units, including the Dolphin Force and Mohafaz Squad, will remain active on highways and major roads, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations. These units aim to deter violations and maintain smooth vehicular flow throughout the night.
How Citizens Can Contribute to Safety
Authorities are encouraging citizens to play their part in maintaining peace and order during the celebrations. Suspicious or illegal activities can be reported through the police helpline (15), ensuring timely action and public safety.
The Punjab Police's proactive measures highlight their commitment to public safety during New Year’s Eve. By adhering to traffic laws and cooperating with authorities, citizens can contribute to a safer and more enjoyable celebration for everyone.
