Govt Ready to Launch PM’s Rs. 10 Billion Ramazan Package Soon

-

The federal government has officially finalized an extensive strategy to implement the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Package, which aims to provide a Rs. 10 billion subsidy on essential items.

This initiative is designed to support millions of underprivileged citizens by ensuring the affordability of staple goods throughout the holy month of Ramazan.

A total of 16 million people will directly benefit from this subsidy, including 15 million registered beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and an additional 1 million ordinary citizens who qualify for the relief.

This marks a significant increase of 1.2 million beneficiaries compared to the previous year, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding social safety nets amid rising inflation.

Mobile Utility Stores and Flour Sale Points

To facilitate widespread access to subsidized essential goods, the government has announced the establishment of 800 mobile Utility Stores and 300 dedicated flour sale points across the country.

These will remain operational throughout Ramazan, ensuring that citizens, especially those in remote and underserved areas, have easy access to affordable food items.

To prevent misuse of the funds and ensure transparency, the government has introduced a rigorous monitoring system, including:

  • Live-streaming cameras at all Utility Stores to provide real-time surveillance.
  • A central monitoring cell at the Utility Stores Corporation head office to oversee operations and prevent any irregularities.
  • Ten toll-free complaint lines that will be available for the public to report grievances related to the program’s execution.

Key Items Covered Under the Subsidy

The Prime Minister’s Ramazan includes substantial subsidies on essential food and grocery items, ensuring that basic needs are met for millions of households. Some of the key items covered under this initiative include:

  • Wheat Flour
  • Sugar
  • Cooking Oil & Ghee
  • Rice
  • Pulses (Lentils, Chickpeas, etc.)
  • Tea
  • Milk & Dairy Products
  • Dates and Beverages

By subsidizing these staple items, the government aims to reduce the financial burden on low-income families, allowing them to observe Ramazan with dignity and without undue economic stress.

Ensuring Fair Distribution and Accessibility

One of the primary concerns with any subsidy program is the fair distribution of resources. To counteract hoarding, price manipulation, and fraudulent claims, the government is implementing strict verification measures.

The collaboration between BISP and NADRA will ensure that only eligible families receive assistance. Additionally, dedicated Utility Store staff will monitor distribution points to prevent bulk purchasing and resale at higher prices.

With inflation continuing to challenge household budgets across Pakistan, this Rs. 10 billion subsidy comes as a much-needed relief for struggling families.

Rising prices of essential commodities have made it increasingly difficult for lower-income groups to afford basic necessities.
