16 Years old boy committed suicide over not allowed to play PUBG

The popular online game Players Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is said to have claimed the life of another teenager in Lahore on Sunday.

Police say the 16-year-old boy from Ichhra neighborhood committed suicide after his family prevented him from playing the addictive online game.

The latest suicide incident was followed in early June by the deaths of two boys in Punjab's capital, with a 20-year-old committed suicide in the northern canton of Saddar Bazaar and a 16-year-old claiming his own life in Gulshan-e-Abbas phase 2 blocks.

Shehryar's brother Shoaib told investigators that they belonged to Quetta and that his brother was addicted to the online game.

On June 1, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) banned PUBG, citing several complaints that it was "addiction", a waste of time and possible negative effects on children's physical and mental health.

However, after meeting with the company's representative last month, the PTA decided to lift the PUBG ban.

“Given the company's positive commitment and response, the PTA has decided to withdraw PUBG,” the official statement said.
