Token Tax Deadline in Islamabad Extended: Pay by January 15

The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has extended the deadline for paying vehicle token taxes from December 31 to January 15, 2025.

Previously, the department announced strict measures against defaulters starting January 1, including vehicle registration cancellation and hefty fines.

Cancellation of Vehicle Registration

200% Penalty for Registration Restoration

Simplified Payment Options for vehicleimportationOwners

To ensure timely payments, the department has introduced several facilitation measures:

  1. Digital Payments: Owners of vehicles with smart cards can use the Islamabad City App to pay their token taxes conveniently.
  2. Extended Office Hours: The Excise and Taxation counters in Islamabad will remain open until 8 PM daily to accommodate taxpayers.

Enhanced Defaulter Identification and Penalties

Using advanced software systems, the department is actively identifying defaulters. Non-compliance by the January 15 deadline will result in automatic registration cancellation. Reinstatement will only be possible after paying a substantial fine.

Random Inspections and Compliance Monitoring

The department has intensified random vehicle inspections to curb habitual tax evasion. Regular penalties are imposed on offenders; however, persistent defaulters continue to evade payment despite repeated penalties.

Directorate

Director of Excise and Taxation, Bilal Azam Khan, urges all vehicle owners to clear their dues promptly to avoid severe penalties and legal consequences.

“Non-payment of token tax not only disrupts the system but also burdens compliant taxpayers. It’s essential to fulfill your responsibilities by the given deadline.”

For more updates and assistance, visit the official Excise and Taxation Department counters or use the Islamabad City App.

Act now to avoid penalties—January 15 is the final deadline!
