Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet Tomorrow for Ramadan Moon

-

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Peshawar on Friday, February 28, 2025, to determine the sighting of the Ramadan crescent in Pakistan.

The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will take place at the Auqaf Department building.

In Islamabad, the local moon sighting committee will gather at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

However, the final decision regarding the Ramadan moon sighting in Pakistan will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will collect evidence from across the country before making an official announcement.

SUPARCO’s Prediction for Ramadan 2025 Moon Sighting

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has provided an astronomical forecast regarding the Ramadan moon:

  • The new moon will be born on February 28 at 5:45 AM PST.
  • At sunset, the moon will be 12 hours old and at an altitude of only five degrees, making it difficult to sight with the naked eye.
  • Experts say that for a clear moon sighting, the crescent should be at least 19 hours old.
  • Due to this, the moon is expected to be visible on March 1, 2025, marking the first fast of Ramadan on March 2, 2025.

In Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee follows both scientific data and eyewitness testimonies before announcing the start of Islamic months. The committee gathers input from:

Meteorological experts
Astronomers
Religious scholars
Eyewitnesses from different parts of the country

A Sacred Month for Muslims

Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, observed by millions of Muslims worldwide. It is a month of fasting (sawm), prayers (salah and taraweeh), charity (zakat & sadaqah), and self-reflection.

During Ramadan, Muslims:
Fast from dawn to sunset (Suhoor to Iftar)
Read and recite the Quran
Perform extra prayers (Taraweeh & Tahajjud)
Seek forgiveness and blessings from Allah

The holy month concludes with Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival celebrated with joy, prayers, and generosity.

Based on SUPARCO’s forecast, the Ramadan moon is likely to be sighted on March 1, 2025. If confirmed, the first fast will be observed on March 2, 2025.
