Punjab Declares Public Holiday on February 5

The Punjab government has officially declared February 5, 2025, a public holiday across the province to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day.

This decision aligns with the ongoing tradition of standing in solidarity with the eople of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing Pakistan’s unwavering support for their right to self-determination.

As part of the public holiday notification, all government offices under the Punjab administration will remain closed on Wednesday, February 5.

This includes educational institutions, semi-government organizations, and municipal offices.

The provincial government has encouraged public and private institutions to participate in commemorative activities that highlight the significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day.

Although Punjab and Sindh have already taken the lead in declaring the Kashmir Day holiday, the federal government has not yet issued an official notification confirming the holiday across the country.

Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed annually on February 5, was first declared as a national holiday in 1990 by the government of Pakistan to express unwavering support for the Kashmiri people.

Various civil society organizations, human rights activists, and political leaders participate in demonstrations and discussions to highlight the plight of the Kashmiri people.

Federal Government Yet to Announce an Official Notification

The Punjab government has announced a series of events, rallies, and awareness campaigns in collaboration with various organizations to highlight the importance of the Kashmir cause. The day will feature:

  • Public Rallies and Marches: Peaceful demonstrations in major cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
  • Special Prayers: Mosques across Punjab will hold prayers for the well-being of Kashmiris and their struggle for independence.
  • Educational Seminars and Discussions: Universities and colleges will conduct awareness sessions on the ongoing Kashmir conflict.
  • Media Campaigns: National television channels and newspapers will broadcast documentaries, interviews, and special programs dedicated to the Kashmir issue.

To ensure maximum participation in Kashmir Solidarity Day events, public transport services may operate on a limited schedule.
