PTA Custom duty Taxes on Smart phones 2023 updated

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has implemented 6 new slabs for duties and taxes on imported mobile phones. Instead of calculating taxes based on individual device prices, the FBR has established fixed slabs for the convenience of the public.

For mobile phones valued between $100-$200, a flat rate of Rs 9,580 (for passport holders) and Rs 11,561 (for CNIC holders) will be charged as a regulatory duty.

For phones valued over $500 per set, individuals will be charged Rs27,600 + 17% sales tax (for passport holders) and Rs37,007 + 17% sales tax (for CNIC holders). These slabs cater to international travelers who bring new smartphones, which are not compliant with the PTA.

How to Check the PTA complaint of mobile phone

SMS Verification Steps:

  1. Open your message app.
  2. Compose a new message.
  3. Type in the IMEI number.
  4. Send the message to 8484.

To check the status of your mobile device, dial *#06# from the device's dialer. After receiving each 15-digit IMEI number (for dual SIM devices), send each one via SMS to the shortcode 8484.

As of January 15th, 2019, all mobile devices that were active on Pakistani mobile networks, regardless of their compliance status (having SIM/IMEI functionality), will be able to continue functioning without any interruption.

However, for non-compliant devices, they will be linked to the specific mobile number of the user. This means that the device's functionality will be linked to the user's mobile number, ensuring seamless connectivity and usage.

If you want to check the PTA compliant status on the web just simply put your mobile device IMEI no here.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in Pakistan. One of the responsibilities of the PTA is to enforce customs duties on imported telecommunication equipment and devices.

The customs duty is a tax that is levied on imported goods to protect domestic industries and to generate revenue for the government. The exact amount of custom duty imposed by the PTA varies depending on the type of telecommunication equipment and devices being imported.

The PTA may also impose additional taxes and fees, such as regulatory duty, sales tax, and advance income tax, on imported telecommunication equipment and devices.
