PSO has set up the country’s first Euro5 filling station in Karachi.

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has set up the country's first Euro5 filling station in Karachi. In a statement, the state agency said it was the first Oil Marketing Company (OMC) to supply Euro5 fuel in Pakistan.

The company sells Hi-Octane 97 Euro5 fuel in the metropolis.

The company previously announced that the first shipment from Euro5 had reached Pakistan. "Keeping its promise, PSO has set the standard again, bringing the country's first delivery of Hi-Octane fuel to Euro5," the company said in a statement.

The company also said the PCA is revolutionizing fuels in Pakistan by introducing this high performance fuel, which:

  • Improve engine performance
  • Reduce vehicle emissions
  • Create a cleaner environment for future generations

At the beginning of June this year, the Pakistani government decided to improve the quality of gasoline and diesel. According to the federal minister of climate change, Malik Amin Aslam, the fuel quality of Euro2 would change.

"Pakistan will enter a new era of clean fuel," said the minister, adding that it would help fight smog. Amin went on to say that this new policy would apply to all imports from August 1, 2020.

However, he said gasoline would switch to upgraded fuel from August 1, while the diesel standard would change from January 1, 2021.

The government made this decision at a meeting of the federal cabinet as Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Objection from the automotive industry:
Meanwhile, the local auto industry has been trying to switch from Euro2 in Pakistan to Euro5 gasoline for two years now.

According to media reports, one of the local car manufacturers wrote to the government that the emissions of SRO 72 (KE) in Pakistan as of May 16, 2009 are currently euro 2.

This regulation gave the automotive industry two years to switch from Euro zero to Euro 2," the company said.
