A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing widespread devastation and loss of life.

In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has taken swift action by establishing a Crisis Management Cell to assist Pakistani nationals affected by this catastrophic event.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan has expressed deep solidarity with the people of Myanmar and Thailand during this tragic time. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens abroad by offering immediate support and relief measures.

Extent of Earthquake’s Impact on Myanmar and Thailand

Myanmar bore the brunt of the earthquake, with reports of collapsed buildings, landslides, and severe structural damage. The earthquake’s epicenter, located in a region already vulnerable to seismic activity, led to widespread destruction of homes, offices, and public infrastructure.

Rescue operations are underway as local authorities, along with international humanitarian organizations, work tirelessly to locate survivors trapped under the debris.

Thailand also felt the strong tremors, leading to fatalities, injuries, and substantial property damage. Cities close to the Myanmar border experienced the most severe impact, with several high-rise buildings and bridges sustaining structural cracks.

Authorities in Thailand have declared an emergency in the hardest-hit provinces, deploying rescue teams to affected areas. The Thai government, along with local and international agencies, is coordinating relief measures to aid victims of the disaster.

Pakistan’s Role in Assisting Affected Citizens

The Pakistani embassies in Yangon and Bangkok have been instructed to extend all possible assistance to nationals affected by the earthquake.

MoFA has advised Pakistanis residing in Myanmar and Thailand to register with their respective embassies to facilitate better coordination and timely assistance in case of emergencies.

How Pakistani Nationals Can Seek Help

  1. Call the designated embassy hotlines for immediate support.
  2. Send an email to the Crisis Management Unit in Islamabad for further coordination.
  3. Follow social media updates from MoFA and respective embassies for real-time alerts and instructions.
