Nanjing University Offering fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students

Scholarships for Pakistani Students

Professor Dr Tong Jiang, the Executive Director of the Research Institute of Climatic and Environmental Governance at NUIST, has confirmed the availability of fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students.

These scholarships are specifically designed to support research and studies related to Climate Change and Environmental Governance. By providing comprehensive financial support, NUIST aims to nurture the talents of Pakistani students and equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in combating the climate crisis.

Collaboration with NUST and Other Prominent Universities

Recognizing the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange, NUIST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).

This partnership will foster scientific research collaborations and facilitate the exchange of students and faculty between the two institutions.

Additionally, NUIST is expanding its research cooperation with other renowned universities in Pakistan, including Quaid-e-Azam University, COMSATS University Islamabad, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Research Opportunities and Postdoctoral Positions

NUIST is committed to promoting research excellence in the field of climate change and climate risk studies. As part of this commitment, young scientists from Pakistani universities specializing in climate change and climate risk studies will have the opportunity to conduct research at NUIST.

Addressing Water Shortage and Climate Change Impacts

One of the focal points of NUIST's project in Pakistan is addressing water shortage and understanding the tipping points related to climate change. Pakistan has experienced devastating losses due to heavy floods and is currently facing high temperatures and droughts.

To combat these challenges, NUIST's research will focus on developing strategies to overcome climate change impacts and reduce water shortages.

The United Nations (UN) report highlights the increasing water shortage in Pakistan, primarily attributed to population growth and deficiencies in water management mechanisms.

Given that Pakistan's economy heavily relies on agriculture, where water is an essential component, the research conducted by NUIST will aim to devise innovative solutions that mitigate the impact of climate change on water resources.

Combating Air Pollution and Smog

Air pollution and smog pose significant challenges to the environment and human health in Pakistan. Professor Jiang identifies industrial emissions, vehicular emissions, domestic emissions, construction-related dust emissions, smoke from brick kilns, and soot from burning agricultural waste as major contributors to poor air quality.

To address these issues, NUIST proposes the following measures:

  1. Shifting industries from cities to designated industrial areas to reduce emissions in populated areas.
  2. Transitioning to renewable energy sources to minimize reliance on fossil fuels and decrease pollution from energy generation.
  3. Promoting the use of affordable public transport systems to reduce vehicular emissions and congestion.
  4. Implementing extensive tree plantation drives to enhance air quality and combat deforestation.
  5. Adopting effective waste management practices to control pollution from livestock and urban waste.

By implementing these solutions, NUIST aims to improve air quality and create a healthier environment for the people of Pakistan.
