MTMIS Vehicle Verification Punjab 2026 — How to Check Any Car or Bike Registration Online in 60 Seconds

Whether you are buying a used car, checking your own vehicle’s status, or verifying before paying token tax — Punjab’s Motor Transport Management Information System (MTMIS), also known as the Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (MVRC) portal, gives you instant access to any registered vehicle’s official government record. This guide shows you exactly how to use it, what the results mean, and what to do if something looks wrong.

⚡ What You Need to Know First

  • MTMIS is managed by Punjab Excise & Taxation Department and PITB — it is the official government database for all vehicles registered in Punjab
  • You can check any vehicle’s registration status, owner name, chassis number, engine number, and token tax payment history for free
  • The portal is available at mtmis.punjab.gov.pk — no app download or registration required
  • If a vehicle is listed as “Stolen” or “Under Case” in the results — do not buy it under any circumstances
  • MTMIS only covers Punjab-registered vehicles — for Sindh use excise.sindh.gov.pk, for KPK use kpexcise.gov.pk

How to Check Vehicle Registration on MTMIS: Step by Step

  1. Open the MTMIS portalOn your phone or computer, go to mtmis.punjab.gov.pk. This is the official Punjab Government portal — bookmark it. There are many unofficial copycat sites; always use the .gov.pk address.
  2. Enter the vehicle’s registration numberType the number plate exactly as it appears on the vehicle. Punjab plates follow formats like LHR-1234, LEA-12345, or LES-123. Do not add spaces, dashes, or extra characters beyond what is on the plate.
  3. Complete the captcha verificationType the characters shown in the captcha image. If the captcha is unclear, click the refresh icon to get a new one.
  4. Click Search and read the resultResults appear within 2–3 seconds. You will see a summary screen with the vehicle’s registration details.
  5. Cross-check the physical vehicle against the resultCompare the chassis number and engine number shown on MTMIS against the actual chassis plate on the vehicle (usually stamped on the engine bay firewall or under the bonnet). A mismatch is a serious red flag.

What the MTMIS Result Shows You

Owner NameLegal registered owner — verify this matches the seller’s CNIC
Registration NumberConfirms the plate is genuine and registered in Punjab’s system
Chassis NumberMatch against the physical stamp on the vehicle — tampering is a serious crime
Engine NumberCompare against the engine block stamp — mismatches indicate engine swaps
Registration Status“Active”, “Transferred”, “Stolen”, or “Under Case” — anything other than Active requires investigation
Token Tax HistoryShows if annual token tax is paid up to date — outstanding dues pass to the new owner on transfer
Hypothecation/LeaseShows if the vehicle is under a bank loan or finance — check if the seller has cleared it before buying
Vehicle Make/Model/YearVerify year of manufacture matches what the seller claims

Red Flags — When Not to Buy

🚫
Never buy a vehicle with any of these MTMIS results
  • Status: Stolen — the vehicle is in FIA/Police records as stolen. Purchasing it makes you liable regardless of seller claims
  • Status: Under Case / Sub-Judice — legal proceedings are ongoing. Transfer will be blocked at the Excise office
  • Chassis number mismatch — the physical vehicle is not the registered vehicle. This is a fraud or clone
  • Hypothecation active — bank/leasing company has a lien on the vehicle. They must issue an NOC before transfer
  • Owner name does not match seller’s CNIC — insist on a proper transfer chain or walk away

How to Transfer a Vehicle After Purchase

Once you have verified the vehicle on MTMIS and agreed to purchase, the legal transfer process in Punjab requires both buyer and seller to visit the Punjab Excise & Taxation District Office. Required documents:

  • Original vehicle registration book (R/C book) signed by seller
  • CNICs of both buyer and seller
  • Clearance certificate from relevant traffic police (if required by your district)
  • Bank NOC if the vehicle had a hypothecation on record
  • Transfer fee payment (varies by vehicle category — check your district Excise office for current rates)
💡
Pro tip: Also check DLIMS Punjab for the seller’s driving licence validity Punjab’s DLIMS portal (dlims.punjab.gov.pk) lets you verify any driver’s licence by licence number or CNIC. For a used car purchase, it is worth spending 60 seconds verifying that the seller’s licence is genuine and matches their CNIC — an extra layer of fraud prevention that costs nothing.

Checking Vehicles Registered in Sindh, KPK, or Islamabad

  • Sindh: excise.sindh.gov.pk → Motor Vehicle section → Vehicle Verification
  • KPK: kpexcise.gov.pk → Vehicle Verification
  • Islamabad (ICT): Islamabad Excise & Taxation — verification via the excise office directly; no public online portal as of March 2026
  • AJK / GB: No equivalent online verification portal — verify through AJK Excise office in person
