Rector of GCU Lahore, Dr. Asghar Zaidi said that universities are a catalyst for change and that the GCU must make a change in the society where transgender students are accepted as lawyers, doctors, engineers, bureaucrats and politicians.
We need to educate and reform our society so that parents will accept and love their transsexual children and raise them with the same effort and attention as their cisgender sons and daughters,” he added.
The VC stated, "I believe improving transgender students' access to higher education was a prerequisite for this change."
He stressed that schools and other higher education institutions also need special places for disadvantaged people. "I would like to thank the Chancellor and the members of the University's Academic Council for their support for this decision to allocate special seats to transgender people."
