DRAP Permitted the local Production of Raw materials for Anti Malarial Drug

DRAP( Drug regulation authority of Pakistan) has granted the permission to produce the raw material locally for the anti malarial drug.

Previous research has shown that chlorokine, a malaria drug, can be used to treat the new COVID-19. The drug has been in the headlines since President Donald Trump claimed that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had already approved it for treating the virus.

This led to a panicky purchase of the drug worldwide, which led to a shortage. In Pakistan the raw material is imported from the foreign countries.

The special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Health, Dr. Zafar Mirza said permission was also given to conduct clinical trials of plasma therapy in COVID-19 patients. In addition, trials with locally produced ventilators are also starting.

More than 50 companies were able to produce hand sanitizer with DRAP (Drug regulation authority of Pakistan). These recognized companies manufacture disinfectants according to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

An earlier, public notice was issued by the Primary and secondary health care of Punjab, more than 50 companies were banned for hand sanitizer manufacturing because they were producing a low grade hand sanitizer.
