Dr Furqan Ul Haq death caused by Civil Hospital misjudgment

A special committee, established by the Government of Sindh, to find out Dr. Furqanul Haq, who died of the coronavirus as the third member of the medical fraternity in Karachi, found that the doctor at the civil hospital had "misjudged" the cause. of his death.

After Dr. Furqan ul Haq passed away on Sunday, Secretary General of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Dr. Qaiser Sajjad claims that Dr. Furqan had to be hooked up to a fan, but the facility could not be found despite visiting several of the city's hospitals.

In response to these allegations, Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab announced on Monday evening that a committee had been set up to investigate the case and prepare a report "within 24 hours".

According to the committee's report released Wednesday morning, the Karachi Civil Hospital (CHK) caregiver who examined the patient showed negligence because he was unable to hospitalize him despite the availability of at least nine beds in intensive care- department.

However, the report also found that the patient was reluctant to be hospitalized.

The report reported on the events leading up to Dr. Haq had led. He was diagnosed with the virus on May 1. The Sindh Health Department then contacted the patient through a rapid response team through May 2.

The next day, his condition and his cousin Dr. Nida advised to go to the Indus hospital. Without this advice, Dr. Furqan instead on the advice of his colleague Dr. Amir visited the Sindh Institute for Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).

However, when an Aman ambulance arrived, he brought Dr. Furqan to CHK and not to SIUT. At CHK Dr. Furqan was taken by the emergency services to the coronavirus control room, where he was met by Dr. Jagdesh, the doctor on duty, was examined.

"Instead of admitting him, he (Dr. Jagdesh) advised Dr. Haq to contact the doctor who arranged a bed for him," the report said.

The patient left the ambulance and went home instead of another hospital. When he returned home, his condition deteriorated and he was taken to Trimax hospital - where he worked privately, ”the report added.

The Doctor Haq at Trimax believed that he needed special care with ventilation options. At the time, the report said that Dr. Furqan came home after he was tired.

"The patient's family was not available for comment, but the patient eventually went to (DOW University) Ojha, where he was announced to dead, as per the report said.

“The committee believes that there was a serious lack of communication. The patient wanted Jagdesh to be admitted to CHK because he was unable to travel to Ojha or any other hospital. "

The report also led to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Dr. Jagdesh advised him because of "his misjudgment" - "an act of omission rather than intention" that caused a patient to lose his life.

The claim that the Sindh government was facing a ventilators shortage was already refuted Monday by media coordinator for Health and Civil Defense Minister Meeran Yousuf, who claimed ventilators and beds are available at CHK and Jinnah Hospital.
