The spokesperson said in a statement that the first information reports (FIRs) were registered against 87 people who were detained, while 43 people were held under public order (MPO).
The statement added that more than 4,000 hate speech websites have been blocked by CTD through the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA). He added that measures have been taken to prevent these people from spreading hate.
"The names of these 218 people from all sects are on the 4th list of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 to monitor their activities. They will not be able to spread hate speech while on the 4th list," the statement said. .
In the first ten days (Ashura) in Muharram, 57 people were involved in spreading hate speech on social media through arrests under the Anti-Terrorism Act and prisons under the MPO, the spokesman said.
"These strict legal action by the LEAs resulted in a peaceful Muharram in 2020. The government is determined not to allow anyone to incite sectarian hatred. Peace in society is maintained at all costs," the spokesman said.
